Tommy Hunter appointed as Richmond FC’s VFL Women’s Coach
A great achievement from one of East Keilor’s favourite sons, Tommy Hunter, as he has been appointment coach of Richmond FC’s VFL Womens Team and Richmond’s Next Generation Academy. Tom started at EKFC in the under 10’s in 1999 and played in all of the age groups right up until 2008 when he made his Senior debut for the club. He played with the Calder Cannons in 2008-2009 and was a Premiership player with the Cannons in 2009.
At the end of 2009 Tom was selected in the 2010 Rookie Draft Pick at number 18 by Collingwood. He had two years on the list at Collingwood but then was unfortunately forced into an early retirement due to a neck injury.
Tom then begun his so far very impressive coaching career by returning to East Keilor and coaching our under 18 team to a Premiership in 2012. He then spent the next three years (2013 – 2015) back at the Calder Cannons coaching each line Forwards/backs/midfield.
2016 saw him appointed as Assistant midfield coach at Richmond VFL and then this year (2017) Tom was the forward line coach where Richmond VFL were the eventual runner up premiers. It is fantastic news now that Tom has been named the inaugural Richmond VFLW coach for the 2018/2019 seasons. This role will hopefully allow Tom to transition to AFLW coach in 2020. The other half of his new role is mentoring Richmond’s next generation academy and developing coaches in the Bendigo/Murray area.
Congratulations to Tom, a homegrown local who at 26 years of age already has a very impressive football CV and we are sure it will only improve in years to come. Well done from everyone involved at East Keilor Football Club.
